2023 Sons of Ireland Polar Bear Plunge

So after moving back to Asbury Park at the start of the Pandemic, I felt my growth as a street photographer would stagnate, thinking how spoiled I was by my daily walks in NYC - the perfect balance of beauty and chaos (I’ve said before that I became a street photographer mainly because no one would ever believe half the things I’d see on the regular). What could compare to one of the world’s epicenters, photography or otherwise?

But after some time, I finally opened up to all that my current town had to offer, with early morning bike rides by the beach and even a zombie walk or two. One event that always seemed to elude me was the Polar Bear Plunge (either due to hangovers the night before for NYE or recent COVID cancellations).

Originally founded in 2002, the Sons of Ireland and the Polar Bear Plunge are a New Year Day’s tradition of taking a dip in the Atlantic Ocean in order to raise awareness and provide assistance to charities and organizations in Monmouth County - with over $750,000 donated as of date.

Please check the link to see the rest of my pictures of this event, and set a reminder of possibly donating and/or participating next year!
